Interview with Benoit Henry on his Internship at VCST

Read and discover first hand how interns experience their time at Minerva, the department within VCST that is focused fully on electrification.

Q1: Can you tell me a little bit more about your experience at VCST?
A: I'm Benoit Henry, 23 years old, originally from Paris. I moved to Belgium for my studies, holding a degree in mechanical engineering with a specialization in the automotive industry. In 2021, I did a gap year for an internship at VCST, which turned out to be a great experience. My main goal was to do an internship abroad, and I chose the Flanders region for the opportunity to explore cities like Ghent and Bruges. I worked in a small team with a pleasant atmosphere and a shared mindset toward common goals. My tasks included simulations and testing. Interestingly, the tasks as an intern were similar to my current job, but as the team grows, I now focus more on design, testing, and other aspects.

Q2: Why did you choose to come back to VCST?
A: It was a straightforward decision for me. Having worked in different environments before, I appreciated VCST for its mindset, use of the English language, and the opportunity to work in an international environment. I realized that everything I wanted was present at VCST.

Q3: Did you apply on an open vacancy?
A: No, initially, the internship was supposed to last for six months, but I had the opportunity to stay for a year. Eventually, VCST decided to hire me.

Q4: What is important for you to stay motivated in a job?
A: Having challenges, learning new things every day, and feeling accomplished at the end of the day are crucial for my motivation. Seeing the results of my work, such as designing a part and later seeing it on the test rig, is particularly satisfying.

Q5: What are the challenges in your job currently?
A: The current challenge is getting used to and understanding all the technology around transmissions. It's different in the work field because you have to delve deep into various technologies. It's interesting but challenging information to grasp.

Q6: You are working with interns, what advice would you give them?
A: I would advise them to ask as many informational questions as possible. Working with experts provides a great learning opportunity. Showing genuine interest in the work is also crucial.

Q7: If you had to describe VCST in one word, what would it be?
A: Innovation, because of the innovative power of VCST.
